Corona Cantina #1 Restaurant Review
Thursday February 21, 2008
Corona Cantina #1 is the latest addition to the Legend's at Village West and is the first of many Corona themed restaurants planned by parent company, De Mexico al Mundo. Corona's cuisine, which are traditional recipes from the heart of Mexico, are big on flavor, fresh on ingredients and with spice levels to suit every taste bud. We recently visited on a cold and snowy February day, and couldn't get enough of their great food, wonderfully concocted fruity drinks, and Spring Break like feel.

Went to the Cantina for the first time last night. Wow! Definitely the best Mexican food I’ve had in Kansas City. My girfriend and I split fish tacos for an appetizizer. Then, she got steak fajitas and I had beer battered shrimp. That sauce on the shrimp was wonderful! I was also surprised to learn that the restaurant served the fajitas with homemade corn tortillas. Very cool. Can’t wait to go back.
This is by far the worst food I have ever had put in front of me. The enchilada sauce is black and tastes like soy sauce, the rice is crispy, the beans are mostly lard, the glasses were dirty, and it took until we were half done with our appetizer before we got drinks (which came in dirty glasses). Our waiter admitted to being drunk. The only song they played the ENTIRE time we were there was “Margaritaville”. Not one person in our party ate their food. When we complained to the manager, he just said “OK” and walked away. No apology, no attempt to make restitution, nothing exept rude, rude, rude. The only thing worth paying for was the pepsi. Never again. I have never been so mad leaving a restaurant in my life.
Most upsetting restaurant experience I have ever had. The food was awful and the management did nothing, not even apologize. I have heard this from everyone I know who has been there: they are awful. I’m with Lee, I’ve never left a restaurant so mad in my life.
HORRIBLE, WORST FOOD EVER AND SERVICE…A group of 5 ate out Saturday night appox 6pm. We choose to sit in the Bar area as they non-smoking part of the OPEN restaurant had a 20 minute wait. Our waitress ( I will not say her name but it is one of the Simpson’s girls…not the blonde one) she tried to push the blame on everyone but herself. Don’t think she was too worried about things as it looked like her manager was ok with her performance (not waiting tables I am thinking)..She did not bring chips/salsa, we had to ask several time for water and she had the nerve to not give back proper change. I truly believe this is a TOURIST TRAP and do not expect or want the locals back…if they do, they have a hard time showing it. POOR FOOD AND SERVICE!!!!
BEWARE! We were excited to try another eatery at the Legends, boy were we disappointed. This place was ALL AROUND AWFUL! We are NOT at all picky eaters, but this was horrible food, drinks, and service. I ordered one of their margaritas for $8 and it had no alcohol in it, and didnt taste like an $8 margarita should. We asked for more salsa with the chips, and waited 20 minutes for that. The chicken fajitas came served in nasty, filthy lava rock mortar type bowel, filled with watery grease. The tortillas I was to use to make my fajitas were tiny, and so overly fried, completely sogged with grease, and stale. So gross. The service was so slow, impersonal, and not professional. Later that night we both felt sick, and realized just how nasty that food was. We will never go back.
Really, when a customer has something to tell you, you should really pay attention to them. Apparently this is not the philosophy of the management and staff here. Not only were our chips cold, stale and greeeaaaassssyyy, but our food took over 25 minutes, the service was anything but professional and NO ONE CARED!!!!!
I can only say that my experience has been great all times I have visited. The food is great and probably priced below all other restaurants, portions are large. I have tried several signature dishes, modelo fish tacos, the swiss enchiladas and filete cantinflas wich is probably my favorite. The hand made tortillas are really unique and also de Molcajetes wich are the volcanic plates were the fajitas are served. Regarding the bar, my favorites are the mojitos and the machete drinks. We have visited several times in large groups and have never heard one of our party complain neither by the food or service. I think some of these comments are not making justice to the place!
I think Cantina #1 is by far one of the best mexican places I have eaten at, in a very long time. AND I personally thought the service, and management was amazing.. they were very “on top” of things, and nver kept us waiting.
Wow I’m really shocked by these negative comments! I’ve gone at least 6 times and everytime the food has been hot, fresh, and wonderful. I’ve tried some of their specialty drinks and they were great too! Sometimes when they are busy we waited a while for our food, but never 25 or 30 minutes, the management always walks by to check on things. I personally really like this place! I sure hope they are successful!
Can’t really say much that hasn’t been said other than if you have $40 you feel like throwing away, go to this place for dinner! Two margaritas, chicken tamales, fish tacos and a side of guacamole that they claim is world famous? The only taste was lime! Beans tasted like they had been overcooked in a sauce pan all day (and I’m sure they had been) Fish taco sauce is bbq? Tamales were bland at best. I couldn’t find one positive thing about this place other than our waitress’ huge fake breasts and she wasn’t severing milk. If you’re hungry for Mexican and walking around Legends, DON’T DO IT! DON’T THROW YOUR MONEY AWAY!! KC has tons of non-chain Mexican restaurants that will leave you satisfied and with more money in your pocket. Oh, and the positive comments on here, I would guarantee they were left by employees scared to death of losing their jobs. They might as well start looking because this place is not gonna last!
