Keep the Liberty Memorial Flame Alive

Thursday May 29, 2008
I think it's pretty lame that it only costs $45,000 to keep the Liberty Memorial flame burning and 'budget issues' will only allow it to burn on special holidays.

If the Liberty Memorial/NWWI Museum were housed in any other major city, it would be a huge deal and people all over the land would come and visit. For free. But this is Kansas City. A place where the Mayor proposes a plan for a light rail that really goes nowhere, that nobody in their right mind will ride, and makes Clay Chastain look like he really did have an excellent idea.

Ok, where was I going with this?

A recent release from Denise Redina from the NWW1 said:

'Pioneer Services, a Kansas City-based company, stepped up with an initial $5,000 donation to keep the flame burning until July 4. The company is also challenging other local businesses, individuals, and groups to donate to the cause by July 4, and will match those contributions up to an additional $17,500'.

They've started a new website called savetheflame.org to facilitate donations or you may help by sending a check to 100 W. 26th St., Kansas City, MO 64108.

Pretty sad that a flame to the only WWI monument in the country has to be privately funded.
