The Cavern of Terror

Thursday October 16, 2008
People e-mail me all the time, asking me if a haunted cave in Kansas City exists...and if so, where is it? The creepy cave aptly named The Cavern of Terror, just happens to be a short drive north to Excelsior Springs. The 20+ acre limestone quarry has a long history of local folklore--some say it was a speakeasy, some a Jesse James hideout...but the real creepyness lies in the tale of Dr. Ghoul who purchased the caves years ago and wanted to put his house inside of it.

The caves were purchased in 2003 and the Cavern of Terror was born. This year, the Cavern was taken over by Darkside Productions--who also run most of the haunted houses in town (think Edge of Hell, Catacombs) and promise to scare the bejesus out of you.

Anything having to deal with a cave is scary, turn it into a thrilling 30-40 minute fright fest through the depths of the limestone cave only increases the scare level and your blood pressure. It's here you'll find the scary and downright terrifying lurking pretty much behind every corner.
