Did you know only 5% of Kansas City residents recycle glass? The main reason... Kansas City curbside recycling doesn't include glass, and the few metro drop off locations are somewhat inconvenient for the majority of us.
The honcho's down out Boulevard Brewery realized that not only were their beer bottles taking up a significant chunk of local landfills, but Kansas City needed a better recycling initiative. The solution: Ripple Glass.
Take your empty beer and wine bottles, pickle and salsa jars, and your Snapple to an area drop off location and throw it in a Ripple Glass purple bin. It's that simple. No sorting, no de-labeling. They'll be picked up and taken to a local processing plant and be turned into insulation by Owen Corning among other things.
You'll begin seeing the purple bins in the beginning of November, and may pick up a purple recycling bin for your home at area Price Chopper stores for $4.99.
There will be over 60 drop off locations throughout the metro, most within three miles of Kansas City residents. Find your drop off location here.
Do you plan to use Ripple Glass?

I had no idea such a small percentage of KC residents didn’t recycle. Compare this 5% to the national average of 30%. That’s sad, KC. I think Ripple Glass is just what our city needs.
I will definitely be using them. Currently, I have to drive way out in to JoCo to sort and dump all my glass! So happy!
I’m so glad there is a place close to my home. IS this available now? Thanks Boulevard Brewery!
I live in Leavenworth and the only glass they recycle is clear glass. I would love Ripple Glass to find it’s way out here…
thank goodness we can soon recycle glass! we have had no place in independence to recycle glass for some time now.
This is so nice! I have been going to the drop-off in some industrial area off I-35. Thanks so much for making it so convenient!
Years ago I said I wanted to convert a building downtown for just this purpose because I knew the closest recycling center was so far away. That was the dream of a single 30 something lower income women. I am so thrilled that Boulevard is taking this under their wings. Thank You so much!!! I will get everyone in my family to do this and if they don’t want to take it to the center, I’ll go get it for them.
Why did Wyandotte County get left out when placing collection centers?
I was glad to hear about the local glass recycle bins. I already took my glass to a recycling drop off but liked what I thought was a convenient location. However, by the time I got my huge amount of glass loaded and to the bin it was full to overloading. So, I am wondering how often they change the bin. Hopefully in the future I (and maybe others in the same situation) take our new bin up on a regular basis after everything is caught up it will be GREAT!
