Ripple Glass to Change KC Recycling

Tuesday October 20, 2009

Ripple Glass Recycling

Did you know only 5% of Kansas City residents recycle glass? The main reason... Kansas City curbside recycling doesn't include glass, and the few metro drop off locations are somewhat inconvenient for the majority of us.

The honcho's down out Boulevard Brewery realized that not only were their beer bottles taking up a significant chunk of local landfills, but Kansas City needed a better recycling initiative. The solution: Ripple Glass.

Take your empty beer and wine bottles, pickle and salsa jars, and your Snapple to an area drop off location and throw it in a Ripple Glass purple bin. It's that simple. No sorting, no de-labeling. They'll be picked up and taken to a local processing plant and be turned into insulation by Owen Corning among other things.

You'll begin seeing the purple bins in the beginning of November, and may pick up a purple recycling bin for your home at area Price Chopper stores for $4.99.

There will be over 60 drop off locations throughout the metro, most within three miles of Kansas City residents. Find your drop off location here.

Do you plan to use Ripple Glass?

I had no idea such a small percentage of KC residents didn’t recycle. Compare this 5% to the national average of 30%. That’s sad, KC. I think Ripple Glass is just what our city needs.

I will definitely be using them. Currently, I have to drive way out in to JoCo to sort and dump all my glass! So happy!

I’m so glad there is a place close to my home. IS this available now? Thanks Boulevard Brewery!

I live in Leavenworth and the only glass they recycle is clear glass. I would love Ripple Glass to find it’s way out here…
