I don't know about you--but there is something cool and crazy about Roller Derby. I don't know if it brings me back to the 80's and USA's Derby Girls or the fact that once you see it in person, you can be assured it is not purely for entertainment purposes. The broken bones, huge bruises and slamming to the ground is for real. These girls aren't scared to roll out some punches, or throw and elbow... and I'll be a spectator thank you very much.
2013's Derby season kicks off this Saturday, February 16th with the 'Dead Girl Derby: Love Hurts, to Hale With It'--playing at American Royal's Hale Arena. Can I get a Hale yes?
The bouts start at 4:30pm and last until 10, with the first few bouts being played in 'throwback' style to the Dead Girl's first derby days--skaters not placed in the main games will be thrown into a hat and put on a squad (even if it's not their own team). The main games will be played, according to my sources, around 7pm...although the 'throwback' should be quite entertaining and fun to watch.
Tickets are $15 for adults, those 6-12 are $7 and those 5 and under are free.
Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster-- Dead Girl Derby 2/16/13.
