January 21, 2008 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Martin Luther King, Jr day was adopted in 1986 to recognize the achievements of Dr. King. The holiday is observed on the third Monday of January.

Martin Luther King Day is a federal holiday and all banks, post offices, government and federal buildings, and schools will be closed.

Kansas City, Kansas Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration The annual “Motorcade for Hunger” departs the Mount Zion Baptist Church at 10 a.m. (Fifth Street and Richmond Avenue) and ends at the Reardon Civic Center, Fifth Street and Minnesota Avenue, 11 a.m. The Rev. KCAI Celebrates Martin Luther King Day

KCAI will show a Civil Rights documentry film and Charles Coulter, op-ed editor of The Kansas City Star, will deliver one of King's speeches, open discussion to follow.
