From the Plaza Lights and the Northern Lights at Zona Rosa to Christmas in the Sky, ice skating and the Mayor's Christmas Tree--November is one of the best months of the year to be in Kansas City.   • Plaza Lights 2012:

    The Plaza Lights are one of Kansas City's most favorite traditions and is the official kick off of the holiday season. The famous ceremony, which began as 16 lights hung over a doorway, now includes over 80 miles of lights with 280,000 multi-colored bulbs outlining and illuminating the buildings and towers of the Country Club Plaza. The lighting ceremony takes place on Thanksgiving evening.

    :Sporting KC in the Playoffs

    Cheer on the only winning team in Kansas City as Sporting heads into the playoffs with a 18-7-9 record and winning the Eastern divison. The games are as exciting as they come... I believe that we will win.

    Veteran's Day, November 11th:

    Thank those who served on November 11th with public observances and and cermonies around town. Ft. Leavenworth holds one of the oldest Veteran's Day Parades west of the Mississippi. Taps play at 11am and and the parade winds through downtown Leavenworth.

    National WWI Museum Rememberance and ceremony 10 to 11am

    Vietnam Memorial Fountain 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

    Harry S. Truman Library and Museum, Free admission to active and retired military. Tribute, 2:30-3:30. Events and speeches throughout the day.

    Christmas in the Sky :

    Christmas in the Park kicks off with Christmas in the Sky-- a great event on the night before Thanksgiving at Longview Lake. With over 300,000 glowing bulbs and 175 animated figures, you'll be amazed at the enchantment and wonder of it all.

  • Mayor's Christmas Tree Lighting: The 100-foot-tall Mayor's Christmas Tree, which is one of the nation's tallest, is the centerpiece for an illuminating holiday celebration downtown. Mayor Sly James and a celebrity guest flip the switch to light the tree on Novemeber 23rd. The festivities start at 5:30pm at Crown Center square.

Zona Rosa's Northern Lights:
Northern Lights at Zona Rosa Zona Rosa kicks off the holiday season with its annual 'Northern Lights' lighting ceremony the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Don't miss Santa and his reindeer, the Fairy Princess, live music and much more. The celebration lasts from 4-8pm.

Don't forget all of Zona Rosa's other fun holiday activities, including the KC Museum's Igloo, breakfast with Santa and the Fairy Princess, and even sleigh rides.

Legends Outlets Lighting Ceremony:
Legends Outlets Kansas City Holiday Lighting Ceremony takes place on November 17th from 6:00 -8:00 pm. The eighth annual holiday lighting extravaganza has the largest synchronized lighting ceremony in Kansas City featuring a unique lighting display on a 45-foot holiday tree. The lighting ceremony also includes live holiday music from local artists, and a visit from Santa Claus.

The event kicks off a new on-site location for Santa photos and festive holiday decor on display the shopping, dining and entertainment area throughout December.
