For Earth Day 2006, Kansas City was named by The Green Guide--an environmental consumer guide, as one of the Top 25 Green Cities in the U.S. The ranking is based on factors such as air quality, electricity use and production, green space, public health, recycling programs and a host of other factors. Head to one of these Earth Day Events and see why KC is considered one of the Top Green Cities anywhere.
Take the kids to Earth Day Events at Science City (Pershing and Main) where they will learn about environmental issues and practices, get involved with hands-on science demos, go to workshops, and be inspired to 'Go Green' by al the other Earth Day activities.

This 2.7 mile Earth Day Nature Walk at Shawnee Mission Park, Theatre in the Park (7900 Renner, Overland Park) benefits local environmental group Bridging the Gap. The after-walk Earthfest also hosts over 70 earth-day friendly exhibitors and vendors and has entertainment, games, crafts, and tons of fun Earth Day activities.

The Burr Oak Woods Nature Center (1401 N.W. Park, Blue Springs) celebrates Earth Day from 10 am to 2 pm with tree planting, trash pick-up, and a nature hikes--Saturday, April 19th. Burr Oak Wood's will also host a 'Rockin and Readin Nature Tales'. Free, 10-4pm. Call to register at 816-228-3766.
The Lakeside Nature Center, (4701 E. Gregory Blvd) will take a look at Native Missouri wildlife, have nature demonstrations as well as arts and crafts for its Earth Day celebration. Don't miss Eco-Elvis, gardening booth, guided trail hikes and classroom presentations that include everything from Water Garden demos to info on native Mo wildlife.
