St. Patrick's Day Celebrations:
There is plenty of Irish celebrating to do before, during and way after the Kansas City parade. Here are some of KC’s best places to celebrate and drink a green beer or two.Kansas City Traditions:
The obvious way to spend any St. Patty’s Day is to head to Kelly’s Westport Inn, located in the heart of Westport (500 Westport Rd). It's the place to spend St. Pat's. O’dowd’s Little Dublin is also another place not to be missed, with music playing all day and a great upstairs deck where you can croon to your favorite Irish sing-a-long at both the Plaza and Zoan Rosa locations.
Browne's Irish Market serves up bangers and mash and all the Irish Breakfast fixings from 6:30am-11am. (33rd and Pennsylvania).
Looking for a Party? :
Obviously, the drinking establishments of Westport will be going strong long after the parade ends there this year.
The Martini Corner’s Street Party at 31st and Oak, hosts up a great time between their 5 bars with bands and DJs playing all day.
The Power and Light District hosts their 'Shamrocks and Shenanigans' party which gets started off at 6am with Kegs and Eggs at McFadden's (96.5 broadcasts live). Live entertainment plays all day in the KC Live! Block and don't forget the free parking free parking downtown after 11am at the KC Live! Garage and the Main Street Garage.
A Wee Bit O' Laid Back :
If your not looking for a total smashfest, Mike Kelly’s Westsider at 1515 Westport Road is a good choice. Doors open at 11am with drink specials and great eats. Kansas City fave Eddie Delahunt plays at 2 p.m. making for a perfect post-parade destination. The Gaf, at 7122 Wornall, will probably pull the laid back Brookside crowd and those who tire of all the amateurs in Westport. Lew's (75th and Wornall) also opens its doors at 9am and hosts Disco Dick and the Mirror Balls with drink specials and great food all day at their Irish Hooley extravaganza.
For the Young, and Well, Young:
The younger crowd probably wants to head to Mickey’s located at 9720 Quivira in Lenexa. They promise an unlimited amount of green jell-o shots and live bands throughout the day.
