April 4th Ballot- -Will Voters Bring KC the Super Bowl?

By Mary Anne McNeish-Sharp, About.com

Pros

  • If passed, the 3/8 cent sales tax will bring much needed renovations to the Truman Sports Complex.
  • Promised Super Bowl will bring at least $250 million in revenues.
  • Renovations and roof projects creates an estimated 1,500+ jobs.

Cons

  • Can Jackson County really afford it? Even if the tax passes, the city will need to come up with another $30 million.
  • Do the Royals and Chiefs really deserve new stadiums? They aren't exactly the greatest of teams.
  • Does the NFL guarantee Kansas City a Super Bowl?
  • Will bringing a Super Bowl to Kansas City bring the economic impact the NFL say it will?

Where it Stands

As of press time, neither organization has resigned their leases. Will Kansas City put the renovations and sales tax increase issues on the April 4th ballot? If so, will Jackson County voters be fooled one more time? We can only sit back and see how it all develops.

Would you vote Yes or No April 4th to implement the sales tax for the stadium improvements?
