A reader, new to the KC Metro, sent me an e-mail and asked me what my thoughts were regarding a cold weather birthday for her son. While horseback riding and a trip to the KC Zoo could most likely be ruled out, there are many places around KC to have a successful birthday party when it's cold out-and these might be fun winter activities for kids who are tiring of being inside and need a cure for cold weather boredom!

While you can't exactly plan it because a good amount of snow should be on the ground, Suicide Hill in Brookside would be a great place for a birthday. Take your sleds/tubes/disks and have a blast. Don't forget the hot chocolate-and maybe head over to Cupcake a la mode or Glace for an after sled treat.

While Crown Center's Ice Terrace and the Ice at Park Place are the metro's only outdoor rinks, there are plenty of places to skate inside as well.
