Where to have a Winter Birthday Party in Kansas City:

Kansas City is just plain cold in the winter months, right now it is a frosty 12 degrees.

A reader, new to the KC Metro, sent me an e-mail and asked me what my thoughts were regarding a cold weather birthday for her son. While horseback riding and a trip to the KC Zoo could most likely be ruled out, there are many places around KC to have a successful birthday party when it's cold out-and these might be fun winter activities for kids who are tiring of being inside and need a cure for cold weather boredom!

  • Sky Zone:
6495 Quivira Rd, Shawnee, KS 66216
    (913) 213-5900
    Website: Sky Zone

While equally fun for children and adults, Sky Zone's indoor trampoline park allows you to bounce wall to wall and play 3D versions of your favorite sports. Imagine your 9 year old doing a slam dunk! Many party packages are available for you to choose from, and all packages include one hour of jump time and shoe rental, 40 minutes in a private party room, color invitations and envelopes, a Sky Zone t-shirt for the birthday kid, party plates, napkins, cups, and utensils, party room set-up and clean-up, food and drinks and two free 1 hour passes for future visits.

  • Cosmic Jump:
    12025 S. Strang Line Rd,
    Olathe KS 66062
    913-397-7700
    Website: cosmicjump.com

Also on the subject of indoor trampoline fun, Cosmic Jump offers classic, VIP and trampoline parties in their facility.

  • Snow Creek:

While everyone may not be able to ski or shred, Snow Creek's Tornado Alley is perfect for birthday parties (especially in the 6+ age range). They offer discounted rates on groups and a guaranteed good time. See our Snow Creek Guide here: Snow Creek

  • LegoLand:
    2475 Grand Blvd
    Kansas City, MO 64108

LegoLand Discovery Center, located in Crown Center is a world of color, creativity and fun for children aged approximately three to 10. They offer a wealth of attractions, two rides, 4D cinema and more. Legoland birthday party options offer exclusive themed party rooms suitable for up to 36 party goers and "build your own party" options.

Call 816.471.4FUN for party information. See our LegoLand Guide here: LegoLand

Speaking of Crown Center, LegoLand's next door neighbor, SeaLife has over 260,000 gallons of water and 5,000 fish and sea creatures on display. You may expect to be completely immersed in the world under the sea as soon as you enter. SeaLife encourages interaction with their exhibits-and you can expect many things to be interactive and hands on.

Parties start at $25 dollars per child (10 minimum) and they offer a standard and premium package ($35) See our SeaLife Guide here: SeaLife Call 816.471.4FUN to book your party or visit, SeaLife's Official Site

  • Kaleidoscope:

Also at Crown Center is the famed Kaleidoscope, the brain child of Hallmark Cards Don Hall, who dreamt of a place where kids could 'explore, create, imagine and do'. The magical atmosphere allows you and your children to create art from left over Hallmark materials and is 100% hands-on.

While Kaleidoscope doesn't have an actual 'party-room', you may make a reservation for parties of 15 or more (and disclaimer, do this as SOON AS POSSIBLE). Kaleidoscope is free--so a trip to Crown Center's own Fritz's, Crayola Café or even cake and ice cream at home could finish up a special day.

Call (816) 274-8300 to make a reservation for 15 or more.
