AMC and Legends 14 Summer Movie Camps:
AMC and the Legends 14 both offer free (AMC's cost $1, but proceeds go to charity) movies to beat the heat all summer long. The G and PG flicks are fun for both young and old alike. AMC show at Barrywoods and Indpendence Commons on Wednesday's and at the Legends on Tuesday's and Wednesday's throughout June and July.
Children's Peace Pavillion:
The Children's Peace Pavilion, located in Independence, teaches children about peace through understanding, learning, and fun. This free spot has everything from art stations, mazes and puzzles to hands on activities, nature cave, underwater castle and a giant kaleidoscope. Kaleidoscope at Crown Center :
Kaleidoscope is the brain child of Hallmark Cards Don Hall, who dreamt of a place where kids could 'explore, create, imagine and do'. The magical atmosphere allows you and your kids to create art from left over Hallmark materials. Sessions last about 40 minutes.Location: Crown Center
Hours: Independent sessions #ages 5-12# and family sessions are offered throughout the week, check the website for details.

Head inside to enjoy a blast of cool air and explore the miles of galleries, collections and exhibits. Some special collections do cost extra, but all other parts of the galleries are free.Location: 4525 Oak, Kansas City

The Kansas City Museum is the former home of Kansas City lumber entrepreneur and noted philanthropist, Robert A. Long is home to a huge collection of Kansas City history and artifacts. Head to the museum for story time, which is new in 2009.Location: 3218 Gladstone Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64123

Wonderscope Children's Museum:
While Wonderscope is not exactly free (admission ranges from $4-$7), the practically free price is well worth the fun and great time you'll have at Wonderscope. From creating art and the H20! exhibit to the Lego Ocean Adventure, children of all ages will enjoy their time at Wonderscope (and so will their parents!). - Wonderscope Website
