Blonde Kansas City

Blonde's Ultra Chill Interior-Perfect for Cocktails.

Photo: Blonde

Please Note: As of May, 2010 Blonde has closed. We will update as necessary. Blonde, Kansas City’s latest night time hotspot has developed quite the reputation in the year or so since its opening. The rumors of it being selective, rude, and downright snobby have traveled through many a Kansas City social circle. But like so many Blonde’s that have come before, you just have to get to know her. She’s not pretentious or rude—Blonde is just totally misunderstood.

We're not in Kansas (City) Anymore:

As soon as you walk in the door at Blonde--you feel like you’ve walked off the street from someplace other than Kansas City. With posh décor, beautiful bar and brown suede walls Blonde gives you the swankiness lounge feel of clubs like NYC’s Marquee. It’s a very chill environment with a DJ spinning house music as patrons gather at the bar or sit with friends at cozy tables. If that isn't enough, you can watch a girl on a flat screen blow out a row of candles one at a time..if you can catch her.

Blonde and the City:

Like many things in Kansas City-when one tries to bring anything remotely ‘big city’ to this town, it seemingly gains a bad reputation. Blonde has developed a rep of being discerning, sophisticated and GASP(!) you actually might have to wait in line at the door. Rumors abound that it actually has turned patrons away because they didn’t meet the doorman’s dress code requirements. Seriously, has anyone in this town been to New York or London? Most places won’t even let you stand in line if you have tennis shoes on—and what’s wrong with that? Who wants to get dressed to kill and drink Chambord martini’s next to a guy with a Bud Light and a mullet?

Blonde just needs a little clarification- as our waitress on a recent Wednesday evening so nicely put it. Yes, you need a reservation. Yes, you might have to wait in line—and yes, people are confused about the whole concept of Bottle Service.

Blonde's Bottle Service:

If you’ve ever been barhopping in a major city, Bottle Service is pretty much the standard. As far as I know, Blonde is the first to introduce this concept to the metro and unfortunately, people don’t seem to quite get it. In a nutshell--you MUST make a reservation (which you can do by phone or on the Blonde website), you determine what kind of alcohol you desire and for a predetermined price (Absolute/$200) you get a bottle of the good stuff, an array of Red Bull, every mixer imaginable, fruit and cheese plate, chocolate covered strawberries and a night of fun. You may have up to 10 people at a table..you do the math.

The Good, the Bad and the Blonde:

Wednesday nights are a great night to go to Blonde—for a mere $12 you get a yummie cocktail (their martinis are excellent), an appetizer (try the spinach and artichoke dip, bruschetta or fruit and cheese plate), and an entrée (chicken satay and flats are a house fave). You’ll be completely stuffed, but as if that’s not enough—you also get to choose one of Blonde’s delicious desserts…the Half-baked Chocolate Cookie Dough is a must, but the chocolate covered strawberries aren’t bad either. Anyway you have it—you’ll be taking something home.

Pros:

  • Awesome, laid back atmosphere with DJ spinning tunes.
  • Great drinks.
  • You won’t see any mullets here!

Cons:

  • You must make a reservation (usually by Tuesday for the weekend).
  • There’s no dance floor in this Plaza hotspot
