Guide Review - JP's Wine and Coffee Bar Takes Flight...
With delicious food, smashing wine list and one of KC's best flight tastings in town, JP's is perfect for lunch, dinner or happy hour. JP's offers up an unbelievable wine list---due much in part to owner Ryan Maybee--former honcho at Pierponts who has expertly picked wines from around the world. Lucky for us, Maybee upped the ante and offers up an amazing array of flights (which consist of three or four 2ish ounce pours)-perfect for sampling. On a recent lunch date with my mom, we couldn't pass up the 'Bubbles' flight ($14) which pairs Casalnova Prosecco (Italy), Codorniu Cava Raventos (Spain), Gloria Ferrer (California) and Piper Heidseick Cuvee Brut (France)--perfect for a liquid lunch or with anything on the menu. Also try 'World Cup Whites" ($11) or 'Red for the Head' ($10).Besides great vino--the service is excellent, the waitstaff friendly and well educated in the wine selection. JP's also has cheese flights, a selection of fromage that pair perfectly with a flight for around $14. While you're at it, try one of JP's 'Small Plates' the House made hummus and the Caprese Napoleon with buffalo mozzarella are delicous and perfect for sharing. They also have a small menu-it's more about quality than quantity at JP's. Try the BAT-AM pannini wrap --a delicious combo of bacon, arugula, tomatoes and avocado mayo that will make your mouth water. But the BEST is the delicious blue-cheese cole slaw that served as a side--it will make you coming back for more.
