David Cook American Idol Season 7 : David Cook, American Idol's 7th season standout, hails from Blue Springs, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. David, 25, graduated from Blue Springs South High School and holds a degree in Graphic Design from Central Missouri State University.

  • David Cook's Musical Background: Cook showed musical talent at an early age and played in the Blue Springs High School band. David, who plays guitar and bass guitar, formed the group Axium in 1999 with a high school friend and released a number of albums. Axium's song 'Hold', was chosen by KC based AMC Movie Theaters to run on their pre-show trailer in movie theaters across the country.

    Axium broke up in 2006, and Cook moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to pursue his music career. He joined a popular rock group called the Midwest Kings as a guitarist and vocalist.

    David Cook's American Idol Omaha Auditions : David Cook auditioned for American Idol at Omaha, Nebraska's Qwest Center in August of 2008. Cook originally went to American Idol auditions to support his brother, with no intention of trying out and only did after the urging of his sibling. David sang Bon Jovi's classic, 'Livin' on a Prayer', and with thumbs up from Randy, Paula and Simon-- was a shoe-in to Hollywood. Cook was one of the only hopefuls to come out of the Omaha audition.
    Hollywood Audition: In Hollywood, David sang theBryan Adams ballad, '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You' and played the acoustic guitar. Randy said David had 'nice range', Paula said it 'was soothing' and Simon balked that he would be bland if he 'didn't have his guitar'. Cook moved on to round two with two yes votes. Cook impressed the judges once again with his rendition of Edwin McCain's, 'I'll Be' and moved on to be one of the Top 24 contestants.

    Could David Cook Be the Next American Idol? :

    David has won consistant praise from Randy and Paula, and since singing Richie's 'Hello', Simon began to change his tune. Cowell called Cook's performance 'brillant', and after 'Eleanor Rigby' the usually harsh Brit exclaimed, "If this remains a talent competition rather than a popularity contest, you could win the whole thing."

    The 'American Idol Season 7' concludes on May 20-21st, 2008 with its season finale. From the looks of it, Cook has a huge shot of becoming the next American Idol winner. Kansas City, get voting.
