Jessica Harp and the Wreckers

Along those same lines, Kansas City is a very diverse place-a little country, a little rock and roll and we’ve got the Jazz and Blues influences here. Does that influence you at all with your music?

Oh totally! It mostly been because of my dad-he’s been a huge music fan of all different kinds of music. So growing up here was always taking me places to listen to music--alll around Kansas City. So that defiantly added to my influences.

The Wreckers are touring with Rascal Flatts this summer—how fun has that been so far?

It’s so fun-we’ve had two shows and we’re doing our third show with them tonight. I’m speaking to you poolside in West Palm Beach. I’ve been sitting here, thinking this morning, how great our lives are. (Laughs) and how cool our job is.

Yeah, I’m a little jealous!

It’s pretty cool and for them to offer us an opening on their tour. That was so huge. We just put our record out and to get to play in front of that many people every night, it’s such an honor, really.

Now you’re heading to St Louis—any hopes of having a concert here in Kansas City this summer?

We’re actually still in the process of getting some club dates in between the Rascal Flats shows. I think we are going to have a KC gig, although, I’m not for sure when and where just yet. But I’m thinking it’s probably going to be sometime in July or August.

Well, keep me updated on that. Now, what everyone wants to know-why did you name yourselves the Wreckers?

It’s actually short for the Home Wreckers. (Laughing)

No way!

Yeah, Michelle’s husband actually named us that-which is ironic. It’s like the most obvious thing about Michelle and I and our friendship is that we’re completely unafraid to poke fun at ourselves. That’s just another instance of us laughing at our troubled romantic histories where we tended to fall for guys who would conveniently forget to tell us that they had wives or girlfriends. So…yeah, poking fun at ourselves, plus a lot of our songs that we’ve written together come from situations like that.

That’s what makes for good country songs!

Oh yeah...

Now shifting back to home- what’s your favorite thing to do when you’re in Kansas City?

Now honestly, these days, when I come home I lock myself inside my parents house and I hang out with my parents and my sister, my family and my dog. I don’t go anywhere! My whole life is spent going and I’m constantly moving. When I get to come to KC, I just like to sit on the couch and take a breather.

Kansas City is a good place for downtime, that’s for sure. Ok-last question! What’s your fave Kansas City restaurant?

Favorite Kansas City restaurant??? It’s probably got to be Margarita’s!

Margarita’s on North Oak?

Yep! That’s where I go every time I’m home!

Jessica, thanks so much again, it's been a pleasure. Have fun lounging by the pool.

No problem. I will, thanks!

I wish you all the success with the Wreckers, and next time you’re in KC I’ll try and catch a show.

Thank you- awesome, that’d be great.
